DeSimone Consulting Engineers Offices – Miami
ODP redesigned DeSimone Consulting Engineering’s Miami office to reflect their engineering DNA with transparency, hospitality features, and a balance of open work areas and meeting spaces.
DeSimone Consulting Engineering, a globally recognized structural and façade engineering firm defining the Miami skyline, asked ODP to reimagine its downtown office as an extension of its design DNA. The brief called for a workplace that performs with the same precision as the structures DeSimone engineers, while opening the firm to clients, recruits, and collaborators through transparency and hospitality.
The plan is organized along a central axis anchored by the elevator core. It balances open work zones to the west with meeting and amenity spaces to the east. A hospitality-inspired Social Hub anchors the northeast corner, framing Biscayne Bay and connecting laterally to glass-enclosed conference rooms. Concrete, steel, and glass express the firm’s engineering vocabulary, layered with warm wood, textured textiles, and sculptural lighting that introduce human scale and Miami’s coastal light.
The original 10,000-square-foot floorplate was a standard 1970s corporate layout with low ceilings, narrow corridors, perimeter-only daylight, and opaque partitions isolating the interior. Mechanical and life-safety systems were at the end of their service life. Building structure and existing core locations were fixed.
Opaque partitions were replaced with full-height glass enclosures, bringing daylight from the perimeter to the core. The floorplate was reorganized around a single clear axis, eliminating the corridor maze. New HVAC, plumbing, and life-safety systems were integrated into an exposed-ceiling strategy that recovered vertical dimension. Every workstation maintains a sightline to the skyline DeSimone helped build.
