Machinefabriek Geurtsen Offices – Deventer
Ditt Officemakers designed the Machinefabriek Geurtsen Offices in Deventer to foster connection and well-being through a sustainable, functional workspace that incorporates the company’s heritage into its vibrant interior.
Machinefabriek Geurtsen moved from a distinctive former carpet factory in the center of Deventer to a newly constructed building in a prominent location along the A1.
A Future-Proof Workspace with Character
The move provided an opportunity to take the next step: creating a comfortable, future-proof work environment that aligns with the company’s growth ambitions. The request was clear and straightforward: no excessive luxury, but a functional, robust, and professional office that works well for everyone, where the reuse of existing furniture and objects played an important role.
The new building was developed in line with both BREEAM and WELL principles, placing a strong focus on sustainability, well-being, and creating a healthy work environment for its users.
The design revolves around connection: between people, departments, and the workspace. The new office is organized around an open social hub featuring a reception area, lounge, and work café, which serves as both a daily meeting point and a representative entrance.
Crafted for Connection
Geurtsen’s craftsmanship is subtly woven into the design. Three interlocking gears form the basis of the concept and are reflected in elements such as the staircase, the café, and the reception desk. These forms are also echoed in the rounded lines of the spaces and in the ceiling lines, which ensure a logical flow through the work environment.
Warm materials, such as oak, lend the interior a sense of calm and cohesion. The quiet workspaces are interspersed with areas for meeting and discussion. With sightlines to the lobby, thoughtful material choices, and a “mini-museum” featuring the company’s history, a work environment has been created that is not only functional but also feels like home and tells a story about who Geurtsen is.
