  • Float Studio has completed the interior design of a 1,225 square foot office in Dumbo, a space that reflects Antiwork’s philosophy of working smarter, not harder. Antiwork’s belief in using technology to reduce unnecessary work comes through in a workspace designed around collaboration, and provides a glimpse into how work and workspaces are changing.

Inspired by 1970s interiors and retrofuturism, the project began with an unexpected reference. The team’s first set of inspiration images came from the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory film from 1971, setting the tone for a space that feels imaginative, playful, and unexpected. This influence was layered with Antiwork’s brand identity, including its ever-changing website color combinations and triangular logo.

An angular archway divides the meeting and collaboration zones, while angled custom sofas echo the brand’s visual language. Workstations are intentionally arranged around a central focal point, allowing employees to easily shift between individual work, presentations, and team discussions without the need to rearrange furniture or change spaces.

A rich palette of burgundy, oxblood, and jewel-toned greens is balanced with mint accents and soft neutrals. Material choices reference the 1970s without sacrificing functionality, including low-pile broadloom carpet and locally fabricated custom workstations finished in vintage-inspired laminates. Select vintage pieces and greenery provide the final touches, adding warmth and softening the space.

Designing a space for an AI company today carries a unique responsibility because the work itself is increasingly abstract and screen-based. As intelligence becomes computational and collaboration happens across clouds and time zones, we feel that the physical workplace must do more to anchor identity and reinforce culture. A thoughtfully designed space becomes the expression of values—how a company approaches collaboration, focus, experimentation, and responsibility. Clear spatial organization, areas for deep work, places for spontaneous gathering, and warm, tactile materials counterbalance digital intensity and encourage meaningful human
    interaction.

Through this lens, the project demonstrates how rethinking an existing footprint can have as much impact as expanding into a larger office. The compact workspace reflects Antiwork’s experimental spirit and their vision of an office that evokes “the future of the past”.
