HTO Architecture and Engineering revitalized the HORNBACH Headquarters in Bucharest, Romania, by transforming the existing workspace into a cohesive, contemporary environment that reflects the company’s strong brand identity and enhances functionality.
HTO designed and delivered the refurbishment of HORNBACH’s Bucharest headquarters, transforming the existing workplace into a more functional, cohesive, and contemporary environment aligned with the company’s identity and operational needs.
Initially appointed as architect and interior designer, HTO was subsequently entrusted with the execution of the architectural fit-out works, furniture supply, overall coordination, and project management. This extended role ensured continuity between concept and implementation, allowing the original design intent to be maintained throughout the entire delivery process.
Both the concept and its implementation incorporated materials, finishes, and architectural solutions that reflect HORNBACH’s strong brand identity and the specific nature of its business. Elements associated with construction, craftsmanship, and the DIY environment were reinterpreted and integrated into the workplace in a refined and functional manner. Rather than being used merely as decorative references, these materials became an essential part of the design language, creating a direct and authentic connection between the office environment, the HORNBACH brand, and its core activity.
The project focused on improving the everyday workplace experience while making efficient use of the existing space and infrastructure. Particular attention was given to the relationship between individual work areas, meeting spaces, and shared functions, ensuring an intuitive flow throughout the office and supporting different ways of working.
One of the main challenges was the extremely short implementation timeframe. This required careful planning, fast decision-making, and close coordination between design, procurement, furniture, and on-site activities. HTO’s integrated involvement across all project stages enabled the team to respond quickly, manage the different workstreams efficiently, and deliver the project while maintaining the required level of quality and consistency.
Through this integrated design-and-build approach, the concept, technical development, execution, and final implementation were managed as one coherent process, maintaining control over design intent, quality, budget, and delivery throughout every stage of the project.
