Dynatrace Offices – Detroit
Gensler designed the Dynatrace offices in Detroit, Michigan, creating a workspace that seamlessly integrates the city’s industrial grit with biophilic elements to create a vibrant workspace that fosters connection and collaboration while honoring the culture and energy of downtown Detroit.
A Workspace that Engages and Excites
Designed in response to the evolving needs of today’s workforce, Dynatrace Detroit creates an environment that draws people together while strengthening its connection to the energy and character of downtown Detroit.
Moving from an inherited workplace to a purpose-built headquarters, Dynatrace sought a space that authentically reflects its culture, values, and people. Central to the design is a shared social hub that serves as the workplace’s center of gravity, fostering connection, collaboration, and a strong sense of belonging.
The design balances Detroit’s industrial grit with the restorative qualities of nature. Biophilic elements, natural materials, and wellness-focused amenities support employee wellbeing while shaping a more engaging workplace experience. Wellness rooms, quiet focus spaces, flexible collaboration zones, ergonomic height-adjustable workstations, a game room, and direct access to an outdoor terrace provide employees with a range of settings tailored to different work styles and needs.
An inviting arrival experience and intuitive circulation encourage movement and interaction throughout the workplace, while flexible planning supports the fluid rhythms of hybrid work. Grounded in local culture and designed to spark meaningful connections, the new headquarters cultivates community, supports wellbeing, and creates a destination employees are excited to return to.
The Grit and Spirit of Detroit
A strong gridded framework organizes the workplace, drawing inspiration from the structure and rhythm of the city itself. Within this ordered framework, informal collaboration spaces are woven throughout like urban parks, creating moments for spontaneous interaction, idea sharing, and creative exchange. The contrast between structured and organic forms reflects Detroit’s unique character, celebrating both its industrial legacy and its ongoing transformation.
