Taiyo Ink Manufacturing Offices – Saitama
DRAFT designed offices for Taiyo Ink Manufacturing in Saitama, Japan, featuring a distinctive three-floor atrium with polygonal openings that integrate elements of the surrounding natural landscape, fostering both collaborative and focused workspaces.
Located in RanzanTown in the central part of Saitama Prefecture, surrounded by vast lands and mountains, is a technology development center. A new facility with laboratory and office functions has been established for Taiyo Ink Manufacturing, part of the Taiyo Holdings Group, which boasts the world’s top share in solder resist insulation materials for printed circuit boards. In constructing the office, we unraveled the significance of “located in Ranzan” and aimed to create a unique space by integrating elements of Ranzan’s natural surroundings into the design.
One of the major features is the irregular atrium spanning three floors. As if looking out over the majestic cliffs of a canyon, polygonal openings are layered to create a sense of depth. Each floor, connected through this symbolic atrium, is dotted with various areas designed for comfortable working according to their use. Areas intended to foster collaboration among users are composed of soft materials and colors, creating a more open and warm space where diverse ideas can flow. On the other hand, in spaces designed for focused work, the use of heavy materials and a calm tone creates a sense of seclusion. These areas are not completely enclosed, maintaining a connection to the outside, enabling relaxation and natural concentration.
To embody the company’s long-held value of “cherishing contact with genuine things,” the materials used are meticulously selected for their origin, quality, and aesthetic beauty. Being mindful of essential setups and incorporating the textures and characteristics of these materials into the design, the aim is to create a space that provides high-quality stimulation, which can then be elevated into new creativity.
It is anticipated that the design, which leverages the local characteristics and uniqueness of this area, will bring about a synergistic effect and become the starting point for new innovations.
