  • In a city where reinvention is constant, Float Studio embraced the architectural heritage of a New York financial firm’s NoMad headquarters. Housed in the historic Cooper-Bregstein Building that boasts an original concrete waffle slab ceiling, the interior design celebrates its 1970s charm while infusing the 10,000 square-foot space with a refined, warm atmosphere.

Throughout the office Float’s bespoke pieces add depth and personality to the space. A sculptural reception desk inspired by Vittori Introini in deep lyons blue anchors the entry, tailored to fit the compact footprint of a typical New York City reception area. A nearby console pays homage to Sergio Rodrigues by introducing a touch of modernist minimalism. Even the smallest details are deliberate – like the dovetail connection on the boardroom table, a joinery detail chosen as much for its elegance as for the practical ease of assembly.

Faced with ceiling height constraints, the design team favored character over compromise. In the conference room, a fresh take on 70s aesthetics comes through in purply-blue broadloom carpet, stainless steel tambour, and butter-soft leather touches that feel both nostalgic and fresh. The rhombus-shaped boardroom table cleverly improves sightlines for virtual meetings. Bleachers wrap the edges of the room, offering flexible seating and an almost amphitheater-like feel for larger groups. Finally, acoustical drapes add a layer of intimacy and visual softness that bring the space together.

Moving toward the pantry and townhall, vibrant eucalyptus wood cabinetry and hand-fired red tiles introduce an unexpected pop of color, while a handcrafted cornflower blue sofa table adds a touch of contrast to the palette. Float’s Bolt table gives the common area an industrial edge – its clean lines offer a subtle variation on the richer, more tactile elements around it.

Understated brand colors, bespoke detailing, and a purposeful layout come together in a space where Float Studio gracefully balances function and elegance. The design nods to the past while feeling unmistakably modern.
