  • Techshed (alternatively RedBeacon) is a home improvement marketplace company with an inspirational office space located in Foster City, California.

Designed by Garcia Tamjidi Architecture Design – whose work we’ve seen at Airbnb, Index Ventures, and Method – the office accommodates 157 employees with an open and collaborative work environment.

Work areas include a combination of traditional benching and meeting spaces with some excellent flash meeting spaces. These feature power-ready standing height counters and floor-to-ceiling whiteboards. Located in the interior of the office, these will surely allow for the quick interactions and exchanges they were intended for.

Beyond work efforts, there are areas assigned for play, meditation, and private phone calls. In my estimation, phonebooths and private spaces are a must in today’s open office environments. The designers also note that the cafe space was created with a “robust audio visual system doubles as an all hands meeting and presentation space”.

The design also provides a gated personal storage area to encourage a bicycle commuting culture. With the office’s location along the Bay Trail, this is surely a much easier goal.
