  • Studio G Architects have designed the new offices of networking, wireless, and service assurance company Spirent Communications located in San Jose, California.

Historically, Spirent’s workplaces have leaned towards the traditional, with relatively high cubicles and limited space for collaboration. However, for this project, Studio G was given the opportunity to create a much more modern space that reflects our understanding of how to support innovation and collaboration, along with a better sense of work-life balance. The facility provides both a state-of-the-art innovation workplace, and customer-facing training facilities that provide both a functional capability and a tangible expression of Spirent’s brand.

Spirent selected a building previously remodeled by Studio G, with high, open to structure spaces, and a clean concrete floor. The design for Spirent retained these assets, creating open, flexible spaces with maximum natural light, bright colors, and natural concrete and wood finishes to ground the space.

In this space, Spirent made the transition from traditional cubicles to much lower partitions, achieving a greater sense of openness and transparency. “Main street” circulation encourages informal meetings, and collaborative and open meeting areas provide for a range of different kinds of interactions. An extensive break area provides a gathering space and recreational opportunities, while a smaller break area supports participants in training events.

It is often the case that a major shift in workplace strategy requires extensive change management; however in this case, employees took to the new space with such enthusiasm that it has become the benchmark and example that drives new office developments for Spirent across the country.
