  • D&P Associates designed the Regus Spice coworking offices located in Penang Island, Malaysia.

With Regus Spice, the client wanted to create a dynamic workplace aiming to unite Penang’s business crowd. This fourth project of Regus in Penang is located at Level 3 of SPICE Arena, Bayan Baru and within Bayan Lepas Free Trade Zone that is one of the preferred retail / shopping destinations for working professionals, families, visitors and MICE (meeting, incentive, convention, exhibition). With a total area of over 27 acres, SPICE Arena has state-of-the-art infrastructure equipped with indoor stadium, office space, multi-story parking and aquatic centre facilities.

FVA was asked to refurbish the 3rd level of building with area of 1200 sqm that take a shape of arch. The challenge was to hold stories of Penang Island’s colorful nature and bring a fresh, clean, playful and comfortable atmosphere.

As a response, FVA designed proposed three elements that together form the base providing continuity throughout the entire space: a parquet pattern floor made of standard wooden profiles, the pictures of Penang’s nature hangs on the wall, and the textile furniture of 3 pure colors green blue and yellow inspired by Penang Island’s summer beach.

The brief included a series of different working environments, from the open spaces including the reception and communal work tables in the middle of the bow-shaped area, to more secluded glass meeting room and private office rooms dedicated for one person or a team of co-workers in the two sides of this area. The balcony was transformed to the workplace area with the outdoors furniture. The co-working space was naturally divided without using free-standing walls to maximize the natural lighting through the space. A white tree shaped column was designed for the division between the reception area and the co-working area.

In addition to the overall interior design, FVA team used the contemporary style, simple and flexible furniture as the carpets from Interface, the pendant lightings from Fontana Arte and Brokis, and a series of solid tables, chairs, sofas and storage units from Hay, Viccarbe, Urban Edge, Sunperry, Matiere Grise, Elmod.
