Setter Architects used various design elements to realize the engaging offices for a private medical device company located in Caesarea, Israel.
The medical device company is developing a robotic system for surgical navigation tools used in spine and brain surgery. The company’s expertise is in the field of imaging-guided devices, which help surgeons to position implants during spinal surgery.
In designing the company’s new offices, we emphasized the use of elements that create ties with the medical world – the spine, vertebrae, and connectors – and applied an aesthetic and streamlined design language.
We created a design sequence by using a convex ceiling, resembling the curves of the spine, in the central cafeteria space which is connected to the training room. The ceiling elements receive a “response” in the flooring, which incorporates wood-look tiles set in a concrete floor.
Repetition and variations of movement in the lighting fixtures in the space, as well as in the open-space work areas, is again referenced in the “vertebrae” element – which is a semi-transparent partition dividing the work stations from the public areas.
The carpeting was designed to reflect the lines of a cardiogram registering the heart’s electrical activity during surgery, and recalling the company’s sphere of activity. The light fixtures over the reception desk, and the cladding of the entrance lobby, also represent elements from the medical world.
