  • sshape reflected the global footprint of a nonprofit company when creating a sense of space for their offices located in Arlington, Virginia.

This nonprofit addresses social, agricultural, and environmental challenges worldwide. When their DC Metro office moved to a new shell space in Arlington, Virginia, they wanted the build-out to reflect not just their Arkansas roots, but also the global footprint of their work.

sshape designers used a palette of earth tones and neutrals to represent landscapes of countries where the Client is engaged as well as the Little Rock landscape, accenting the neutrals with the nonprofit’s bold corporate colors in design elements including backsplash tiles and felt wallcoverings. To address shortcomings of this nonprofit’s previous offices, sshape located private office spaces in the interior to allow more light to permeate the workspace. sshape also introduced more conferencing, café, and common work sites throughout the 30,000 square foot suite.

Custom touches in the finished design include a concrete and wood reception desk and a well-branded conference space featuring custom millwork, coffee bar, and seating area. In a final nod to the nonprofit’s reach and mission, sshape created a “common thread” design element that runs throughout the space on the ceiling bulkhead, unifying the workplace just as the Client unifies issues, people, and locations around the world.
