The Mind Room Offices – Melbourne
Vemi designed an office for The Mind Room in Melbourne that reflects their values of comfort, mindfulness, and community, while incorporating sustainability initiatives such as using recycled materials and supporting local suppliers.
Vemi was tasked with creating an office for The Mind Room that honors their values and mission in Melbourne, Australia.
The Mind Room is a health, wellbeing and performance psychology practice. Situated in the centre of Collingwood, the business believes in providing meaning, aiding suffering, and enabling more connection in life. Using their talents to empower individuals, organisations, and communities to not just survive, but thrive.
The brief called for a space that was authentic, mindful, versatile, and a representation of home. It was important for The Mind Room to capture an environment that encouraged comfort, a cosy feel and reflected their approachable and humble personality. These were critical spatial qualities for the business to promote a personable atmosphere; encouraging their clients to feel safe, secure, and protected.
VEMI conducted a series of test fits and building research to help The Mind Room make an informed decision toward their new location. It was important the location fell within a particular budget, demonstrated construction opportunities and was reflective of The Mind Room’s quirky personality. As a result, The Mind Room sits very comfortably within the middle of Collingwood. It was important to pick up on the industrial context of the area and incorporate this into the design; building on that sense of wider community and connection to the local area.
A sustainability initiative was applied throughout the project and was of particular importance to both VEMI and The Mind Room. When selecting new furniture items, Australian suppliers and manufacturers were prioritised. Furniture brand Koala was used throughout the project to support The Turtle Project – a partnership between Koala and WWF-Australia, created to help save marine turtles and their habitat by purchasing Koala products.
Additionally, all selected carpets are made from recycled PET bottles which diverted 6,250 bottles from landfill or entering our oceans.
