Avalara Offices – Durham
Little Diversified Architectural Consulting reimagined the Avalara offices in Durham creating a vibrant and flexible workplace that reflects the company’s culture while honoring its entrepreneurial roots.
Avalara relocated its corporate headquarters from the West Coast to its existing Durham office, creating an opportunity to refresh and elevate the workplace to reflect its role as a national headquarters. Located at 512 S. Mangum Street, Suite 100, and completed in December 2025, the office overlooks the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, reinforcing Avalara’s people-first culture and strong connection to downtown Durham.
The project involved a strategic interior renovation spanning three and a half floors and completed over two phases. Rather than relocating, the design team reimagined the existing workplace to align with Avalara’s brand ethos of “Less taxing, more relaxing,” creating a balanced environment that blends performance, hospitality, and culture while maximizing the value of the existing footprint.
Level 01 was transformed into a client-facing, hospitality-driven destination anchored by an updated tiki bar, a signature element of Avalara’s brand history. Originally used at career fairs and industry events, the tiki bar reflects the company’s entrepreneurial roots and approachable personality. Its integration into the headquarters honors Avalara’s origins while evolving the space to support employees, clients, and company gatherings.
Adjacent to the tiki bar, a large training room accommodates up to 120 people for onboarding, client engagement, and events. Avalara’s corporate color, orange, is intentionally woven throughout the space to reinforce brand identity and energize the workplace. Updates included a shift to a modern, flexible office standard with open workstations, sit-stand desks, enhanced lighting, refreshed finishes, and refinished concrete floors, supporting sustainability and durability through adaptive reuse.
By thoughtfully redeveloping its existing office, Avalara retained its highly valued location while transforming the space to reflect its growth, culture, and national presence, positioning the company for continued success.
